The Ancient Blockbuster

The Bible stands out for its enduring popularity. Have you ever thought why it is still a best-selling and much-read book? The ink on the pages of the Bible has been dry for more than 2,000 years and yet, it is being read today. You know why? Because the Bible shows us God. It is the revelation of God that speaks to us.

When you go watch a movie, you do not just watch the middle or the ending, you want the whole show! The same thing with the Bible, if you want to see the whole picture, you’ve got to read the whole book! Not just the parts here and there that you choose out of nowhere. The column on the right gives you a suggested guide to make sure you will be able to cover all the books of the Bible in a year. Set your goal to read the whole Bible every year. Who knows? After a time, you might be surprised to find that you will be entertained by the stories. You will also be inspired by the different dimensions included — moral, political, emotional, legal, sexual, social, personal etc. You will be affected by the triumphs and the angst of the characters. You will learn a lot from the instructions. You will be awed by the glorious God we call Father.

The Bible is not an end in itself, but a means to bring men to an intimate and satisfying knowledge of God, that they may enter into Him, that they may delight in His Presence, may taste and know the inner sweetness of the very God Himself in the core and center of their hearts. — A. W. Tozer

Don’t Waste Your Life

By John Piper

Millions of people are wasting their lives pursuing dreams of happiness that don’t rise above a good marriage, nice kids, a successful career, a nice car, fun vacations, nice friends, a fun retirement, a painless death, and (hopefully) no hell. John Piper calls this a tragedy in the making. He argues that we were created for joy. We were designed to have one passion. In this book he describes his own journey toward this great, single passion. And He pleads that at all costs we pursue our joy in the crucified Christ, who is the glory of God. The cost is great. But the joy is worth any cost.
